What does Emerson Tuition do?

Emerson Tuition provides one-to-one tuition from qualified teachers, exceptional graduates and highly trained teaching assistants, for children and young people from Primary through to GCSEs, A-levels and entrance exams, including the 11+. Lessons are bespoke to each student, with particular experience of neurodivergent and SEND students and of home-educated children.

Where do you teach?

In East Sussex, Grace Agate-Bacon looks after families within about ten minutes’ drive of Forest Row or East Grinstead, including Forest Row, East Grinstead, Ashurst Wood, Hartfield, Upper Hartfield, Chelwood Gate, Chelwood Common, Danehill, Nutley, Sharpthorne, West Hoathly, Turners Hill, Felbridge, Dormansland and Dormans Park.

In Essex, Samantha Regan looks after families within about ten minutes’ drive of Hornchurch or the centre of Chelmsford, including Hornchurch, Elm Park, Emerson Park, South Hornchurch, Upminster, Corbets Tey, Romford, Gidea Park, Ardleigh Green, Harold Wood, Rush Green, Becontree Heath, Chelmsford, Moulsham, Springfield, Chelmer Village, Beaulieu Park, Great Baddow, Broomfield, Writtle, Widford, Galleywood, Sandon, Howe Green, Boreham, Margaretting, Roxwell and Chignall St James.

Who will teach my child?

A tutor from our network of qualified teachers, exceptional graduates and industry professionals, hand matched to your child for their subject knowledge, teaching approach and personality. We share the tutor’s profile with you first.

Are your tutors DBS checked?

Yes. Every Emerson Tuition tutor holds an enhanced DBS check, and it’s shown on their profile. Emerson Tuition is a member of The Tutors’ Association.

Do you help neurodivergent children and children with SEND?

Yes, it is something we have particular experience of. We start with the individual rather than the label: how they process information, what helps them engage and where the barriers are. See neurodiversity and SEND.

Is tuition only for children who are struggling?

No. Some students need to fill gaps or rebuild confidence, others are already achieving highly and want more challenge. We start wherever the student is.

How do you prepare children for the 11+?

Individually, and with purposeful preparation rather than pressure: English, maths, and verbal and non-verbal reasoning where the chosen schools require them, with exam technique, timed practice and confidence-building. See 11+ and entrance exams.

Do you set homework?

Only where it helps. For Primary children we don’t routinely add homework for the sake of it, and may suggest small, useful things to practise. Entrance exam preparation sometimes needs more structured practice, always weighed against the child’s workload. At GCSE we may set past papers, then use the lesson to work out where marks are being lost.

Do you work with home-educating families?

Yes, from teaching a single subject to GCSE preparation, alongside whatever approach your family follows. See home education support.

How much does tuition cost?

Our prices aren’t on the website at the moment. Call or message us and we’ll tell you the price for your child’s lessons.
