Imogen

Hello, my name is Imogen and I am a qualified teacher who absolutely adores Maths! I have always loved sharing my passion for the subject and so, whilst in the Sixth Form, I began working on a 1:1 basis with students in lower years in the evenings and at weekends. I enjoyed this so much that once I graduated from University I became a full-time tutor working mainly with students from Years 7 to 13. After 5 years, I joined the Teach First Academic Mentoring Initiative where I delivered intervention sessions at a local school to small groups of Key Stage 3 students. Subsequent experience of working as an unqualified teacher followed by teacher training provided me with invaluable experience of working in different Secondary schools and their approaches to the National Curriculum.

Many teachers come into the profession as they themselves have had a teacher who has inspired them. In my case, this particular teacher not only had a love of her subject that was infectious, but also a belief in her students that had a hugely positive impact on my life. When planning my lessons and creating resources I want to inspire a joy of learning whilst creating an environment where students feel safe to approach a concept that may be challenging to them.

It is a privilege to teach and what makes 1:1 tuition so special is building relationships and, most importantly, trust with a student and their family. It is tremendously rewarding to see the progress made by a student and watch their confidence grow. My teaching style therefore is warm and friendly whilst being able to cater for all needs in order to support the student in achieving their goals.
